Hurricanes, Gators and Seminoles Wreck Havoc at #1

By: John Schroeder
Updated: September 24, 2009

ATLANTA – Blowout wins by the big three Florida schools sent shock waves through the college football leader board this weekend. The University of Florida remains #1 according to Vegas odds makers, but Randy Shannon’s Miami Hurricanes cemented their case for the top spot based on quality wins.

Off to a blazing 2-0 start, the Hurricanes have amassed the most impressive resume of any team in the country with wins over Florida State and Georgia Tech. Miami’s case was aided Saturday night by the Seminoles, as their in-state rivals dominated former quality wins leader BYU.

Week 3: The Six Claims to #1

  • Favorite of Vegas: Florida – a 22 point favorite at Kentucky this week
  • Quality Wins: Miami – with prime time wins against Florida State and Georgia Tech
  • Style Points: Florida – averaging a 30 point margin of victory against FBS opponents
  • Hottest Right Now: Cincinnati – impressive wins over two legitimate BCS conference contenders
  • Road Warrior: Houston – went to Stillwater in week two and walked out with a major upset
  • Best Undefeated: Miami – can they make it three in a row this weekend in Blacksburg?
